I arrived early at Love Field so I could take my time and take some pictures as I went. So often, we fly through airports so we can wait to get on a plane, or fly through (pun intended) to pick someone up and get them out of there.
But not this day.
I tried this several years ago, shifting from the Bible I have had since 1999, to a newer version. The only reason I wanted to do so, is that when I’m in the pulpit preaching, the Bible I have is difficult for me to read. Part of that is simply not having adequate glasses for the distance. In fact, I’ve found that the Bible is easier to read, as it is resting on the pulpit, by taking off my glasses.
My first attempt at a newer version didn’t work. I got an English Standard Version. I kept finding I had too many disagreements with the translators. I know. Who am I to disagree with such a fine panel of scholars and translators? But I do have my preferences. When the Greek text says that we should “gird up our loins,” which is an act made by men preparing to go into battle, I don’t want it translated…”be ready.” Kind of loses its emphasis.
I also didn’t like the fact that the ESV, and a host of other translations, didn’t capitalize the divine pronouns. That is lazy and disrespectful.
So I went back to using my New King James Version, which some of the most respected Greek scholars absolutely despise. I only actually know two Greek scholars, and of the two of them, I’ve only heard one say he didn’t like that translation. But I do.
That’s why I ordered a new one. The difference is the font is slightly easier to read and text is laid out in columns. That seems to make the difference.
Of course, we ordered it almost 3 weeks ago, and it was about 4 days later than expected. When did I get it? On Monday, which was Labor Day. Apparently, the US Post Office decided to pay my carrier time-and-a-half to get it to me.
It came in very fine packaging. As should be the case with God’s word.
Notice the silver seal?
I love that they decided to put “Holy Bible” on the spine. We should go back to using the adjective in referring to the Bible… the Holy Bible.
One of my favorite passages from the Old Testament.
This is what the older version looked like.
Joseph and Sara were out on date, drinking a nice red wine, enjoying the evening. They seemed and looked very happy. It was a fun talking with them. I found out that they are Roman Catholic, but haven’t found a church yet. Don’t worry, I made sure to invite them to my Protestant church. They would probably feel comfortable with our worship, given that we have some of the same elements that Roman Catholics practice.
Heidi and I celebrated her 65th birthday yesterday. We rejoice that the LORD has blessed her with so many years, so many experiences, both challenging and filled with joy. With each passing year we are given, we know and trust the LORD to grow us in faith and grace.
Given the blessing the day is to both of us, I thought I would share a few shots from the simple things we enjoyed, which included, two new coffee cups for our morning ritual, and a trip to the Frisco square, where she gladly let me take her picture. She is the most beautiful and cooperative model.

Another photo challenge that I thought I would join. This one, showing cameras, photographers, or equipment is to be in black and white. I’m showing both photographers in this case. The above, taken by my beautiful wife, shown below. The one below, taken by me.

I loved the tower looming over downtown, and found it surprising that it wasn’t letting me forget it was there.

I had Andy and Joey sit down on the bench so I could take some pictures for the Pull Up a Seat challenge. However, it became an Out and About when I started talking to Dave and Amanda Rice. What a wonderful couple. He is a professor in a couple of the colleges in the area, and we had a wonderful conversation.
That is what I love about my Out and About series. I get to meet a lot of people. Some of whom, will actually converse.

This caboose was turned into living quarters of a couple we knew. They really learned to live in small places. I think I could last about an afternoon in a caboose like that. But then again, my apartment is not much bigger.

I spied this guy sitting on the edge of the pond and thought it would be neat if I could get a close up of him. But being the slightly distractible person that I am, I forgot, when and took some 50 shots else where, came back, and found him still sitting there.
This was taken before the radical and unnecessary lock down.
As I worked my way around Bishop Park, I got the idea to take pictures of people walking their dogs just to see if the owners and pets looked similar. I will let you decide. It was also with the dog owners that I began to realize most people don’t mind you taking their pictures. Just ask. You can see some of these dog owners were smiling at the prospect.
It also helped that the dogs, typically, liked me. That’s usually a good thing when trying to take their pictures.
