Birthday Flowers

We recently celebrated Heidi’s birthday, and in lieu of going out to dinner, since she is on a restricted diet, I bought her flowers. It was quite the surprise for her, because I brought the red roses to her while she was as work at Starbuck’s. She didn’t know that I loaded up on dozens of flowers until she came home and found all these arrangements around the apartment. It was a great joy to surprise her with flowers in every room of the house, except the laundry room (we really only have a laundry hall, and it’s not a house, but a one bedroom apartment).

En Fuego Cigars

I was down on the Frisco Square again this morning was surprised by all the booths set up for the July 4th celebration. I had to park in the parking garage behind the library, and make my way to the square since it was all blocked off. While in the square, I stopped by one of my favorite stores, En Fuego Cigars since there was no one out front. By closing off the square to traffic, business was dead. So here are some photos in honor of the store, since none of the regular customers can park close enough to visit. If you are in need of a fine cigar, stop by En Fuego.

No Graven Images

In these parts, this is a famous sculpture depicting a man representing Christ, washing the feet of the Apostle Peter. It stirs up quite a bit of emotion among evangelicals, because in the original sculpture, you have to get on your knees to see the face of the man representing Christ. In doing so, you are worshiping a bronze representation, while well done, that robs the living and true Christ of His glory.

The problem is, in making an image of Christ, the sculptor and evangelicals who have displayed the image, have broken God’s command against graven images. This command is not against all images, but those that represent God. This sculpture clearly does that, to the point that when I took the picture, I planned on posting the picture with my complaint that evangelicals have no problems with false images of God. Then I realized, by posting the picture of the image of a man representing Christ, I was committing the same sin. So I removed that portion of the sculpture.

It may not be as interesting. But I happen to believe that when Jesus told us that if we loved Him, we would keep His commands, which clearly includes not making images of Him.

Eating Bulla

Heidi found this restaurant down in Legacy West in Plano to take me for my birthday. We didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so we went at lunch time and had a few appetizers. It was a real treat. I liked the atmosphere, and the waiter was really talkative. The chef even came out to see us to make sure we were happy with our order.

But as is usually the case, everything we had there, Heidi can make or get for much less. She has already mastered one of the items on the appetizer board we ordered. On Sunday, we had the candied walnuts with our lunch. Once again, Heidi’s Kitchen reigns supreme, and we don’t have to worry about leaving a proper tip.

Even so, here are the photos from the day.

I didn’t realize that the name was Bulla Gastrobar. On one level, the names sounds like something that you would need to see a physician to deal with. But I get where they were going with it.

The chef’s board, with meats, cheeses, olives, candied walnuts and some kind of fruity dip that was delicious.

The one thing Heidi won’t make at home. It’s really hard to get fresh squid this far inland without paying a lot of money for it.
