Down the Trail

The boys and I continued on down the trail after visiting the cliffs. Our walk was almost too long after last weeks illness for me. We had to stop and sit down after ascending a hill. That was a peaceful blessing sitting on the trail listening to the wind in the trees. A moment of peace.

The wooden bridge is actually there for cyclists.

Andy, trying to get Joey to smile.

I got the boys to sing the Doxology with me in tunnel. We needed another 20 people, but it sounded better than I thought it would.

‘neath the Bridge

Heidi and I were taking a walk along the Brazos River downtown when we passed underneath this bridge. I insisted on stopping because there was a boat heading upstream and I wanted to see if the sound changed as we stood there.

She took this picture,  and you can see the wake from the boat. She has an eye for a good photo.

Kayaking On the Brazos

We had to wait. I told the boys that we were going kayaking on the Brazos two weekends ago, and it turned out the Waco Paddle Co., was closed, due to the river being too high. Can you imagine the disaster waiting to happen when amateur kayakers getting swept down the river by a swift current? It was good they were closed.

They were open this past weekend and I made reservations. However, this time, weather forecasters were predicting thunderstorms around 10:45 a.m., and it looked like they might be right. Our reservation was at 10 a.m. I called and to see if I could cancel. They said I could. But I decided, since we were already in the car, to see if we could get on the river nonetheless. We could, and we did.

For two hours we paddled, raced, relaxed and enjoyed the wildlife. Andy even pointed to a duck sitting on a log, and said, “Hey Dad, a sitting duck,” literally. All the while, the clouds looked foreboding and it lightly rained. We actually enjoyed the threat of a gully washer. It was part of the adventure.

As we headed for the car, the heavy rain finally hit and didn’t let up for several hours. We would spend the rest of the day staying dry.

Mid-Week Monochrome #49

It has been a while since I joined a challenge, so I thought I would remedy the problem by joining the Brashley’s Mid-Week Monochrome challenge, number 49.

The subject is the First Street Cemetery that I was walking by near the Brazos River. My favorite picture is the one just below: Private First Class Joseph Cross. I wonder if the tree that his grave is under, was there when they buried him in 1919. It looks peaceful.
