Chip & Joanna’s Fall and How Their Pastor Played a Part

It has been said that culture flows downstream from the church. More specifically, culture flows downstream from the pulpit.

This truth can be seen in the recent dustup over television stars Chip and Joanna Gaines.

For those of you who do not know, Chip and Joanna Gaines are local and national celebrities because of the show Fixer Upper, and because of their empire known as Magnolia. I have never seen Fixer Upper, but I have been to Magnolia. The cookies are worth the high price of $4 a piece. I’ve never tried the cupcakes, but I’m told they are splendid.

The problem for Chip and Joanna has come about because of a new show they are producing called Back to the Frontier.

The New Show

The new show features three couples who pretend to go back in time, and live in the 1880s. The problem with this scenario is that it involves a sodomite couple, who are pretending to be married, and who paid a woman to bear (sell) twin boys to them. My intent here, is not in discussing the couple. You can read more about them here and here. It is much worse than it sounds.

Also, please watch CrossPolitic’s presentation on the entire ordeal here. The guys at CP not only explain what is going on, but also show how wicked the entire show is. It is not as though Chip and Joanna were just providing money to produce the show. They are actively supporting and promoting sodomite marriage. The stated goal of the sodomite couple is to normalize sodomite marriage. This shows that they know it is not normal. It’s evil. In propping up this couple, Chip and Joanna are complicit in this normalization.

Yet, I think what is even more disturbing than all this, is the role their pastor is playing (or not playing). Chip and Joanna attend the church, Antioch Waco. And here is where the real problem begins.

The Pastor Bears the Responsibility

Now you do need to know, that the pastor of Antioch Waco, Jimmy Siebert, has come out against gay marriage, and has expressed that marriage is between a man and a woman. This is a bare minimum of what should have happend. Yet, there is more. He should not have just stated the positive of what they believe, but he also should have called both Chip and Joanna (and all who hold to sodomite marriage) to repentance.

This is what a true shepherd does. He should not just state what marriage is, but for those who are under his spiritual care who are supporting sodomite marriage, he should deal with them in such a way that either leads to their repentance or their excommunication from the church.

But to say nothing… is to neglect the calling of a shepherd.

I admit, church discipline may be going on behind the scenes. Yet, at some point, it has to be public since the sin was public. You cannot ignore the fact that other sheep are watching and need to see discipline in the lives of those who publicly sin.

The greater problem in all this is the fact that the pastor undermines his own stance on marriage every time he allows a woman to preach in the pulpit.

Women in the Pulpit Undermine Marriage

Gabriel Rench shares a video clip of the pastor of Antioch Waco introducing a woman to the congregation who “has a word for us today.” I strongly recommend that you watch it.

What you are seeing is the foundational problem that the pastor has embraced, of allowing women to preach, that results in the acceptance of sodomite marriage. How so?

It is so because the pastor is tacitly approving of role reversals when he allows a woman to preach.

Health Camp Waco

Picked up Joey around 6:30 p.m. on Friday night and headed back down south to Health Camp here in Waco. It’s a burger place that has been around since 1948. They have the best malts, shakes, and burgers around. It’s a legend.

By the time we got there, so did everyone else. We waited in line for about 25 minutes, just to place our order. It was worth it.

Champions Barber & Salon — Thursday Doors July 14, 2022

There are not many barber shops left in the country. At one time, if a man wanted to get a haircut, he had to go to a barbershop. Salon’s were off limits. And that was probably a good thing. I found Champion’s Barber Shop in downtown Waco. Even though it had “Salon” in the name, it was definitely a barber shop for men.

The door wasn’t that much, but I loved the lighting. You can see the one picture of that lighting below that I took one morning before they opened. The problem is that when they opened, they turned on the fluorescent lights and it wasn’t quite as appealing.

But it was still worth the extra trip back downtown when they were open. I met the manager Cameron, pictured below, and he gave me small bit of history, especially about Robert. As you can see in the pictures, this was a barber shop & shoe shine. I asked if they still offered shoe shines, but Cameron said the man who did it, Robert, died a few years ago. They kept chair there as a memorial to him. You can see one photo of a photo of Robert holding up a pair of shoes.

That was the sad aspect of the story. Cameron told me that Robert had worked in the air port for years shining shoes, and ended up in Waco at the barber shop. They do have a guy that comes around and shines shoes when there is a need, but it’s not the same.

Overall, if my wife didn’t cut my hair for free, I would go here. I liked the shop.

I also found a picture of the Duke, which was a great idea on their part. Sadly, most customers they serve today, probably don’t know who the Duke was.

This is part of Dan’s Thursday Doors Challenge.

In Memorial of the Imperial, Orpheum, and Strand Theaters

I loved the way this came about, a picture of pictures, that is actually a memorial mural, of the Imperial, Strand, and Orpheum. They must have been something in their day.

I think would prefer those theaters to the ones today because the ones today are too much of an assault on the senses. The older theaters were there to entertain the mind, make us think. Not so much today. Today’s theaters seek to entertain by assaulting and  overwhelming  our senses, leading us to believe that just by the noise and color and smells, and even feeling the sound, we have been entertained. I’ve quit going to such theaters.

Thursday Doors — January 21, 2021

I found this wonderful door walking through downtown Waco with my boys. I was inspired to rejoin Thursday Doors because of this door. It’s too magnificent not to share. It’s the door to an apartment building and probably the most creative door I’ve found as of yet.

Not sure why they had the ugly screaming man next to it. I guess they are trying to ward off demons.

You can find more Thursday Doors here at Dan’s site.

Celebrating Andy’s Birthday

We celebrated Andy’s birthday on New Year’s Eve by taking him to one of the local hamburger joints. Our joint of choice? Billy Bob’s Hamburgers in downtown Waco. We rarely go out to eat, so taking him out was a treat on our part, and he appreciated it.

Even though it was New Year’s Eve, it wasn’t crowded, given the deluge of rain the area experienced during the day. But we still had to wait at the bar for a bit to get a table.

I did make him take his mask off.

Decisions, decisions. I think both boys went with the regular burgers. Andy added an extra patty and cheese, and Joey copied me on my selection of the onion rings. Best onion rings I’ve had in years. I also had the Southwest burger and Heidi had a bunless burger. Absolutely superb.

Over the past several years, we’ve really grown a dislike for the chain burger places like Whataburger, Five Guys, etc. I’ve learned that most of these places simply add a bunch of stuff to their patties to make it taste good. The actual patties by themselves don’t taste that good. So we don’t go to such places. The only chain restaurant that serves a good hamburger is the Cracker Barrel. I know. Who would have thought it.

But I’m more inclined to find local joints for eating out.

Heidi and I decided, out of the two hamburger joints we’ve been to in Waco, this one was the better one by far. The other one, The Twisted Root Burger Co.,  was actually rated as the number 1 burger place in Waco. I think that poll was taken by Dominion.

“Boys? Can’t you see I’m trying to take a picture of Heidi?” I don’t think they could.
