David is the model of the King who is to come. No, he was not sinless. The writers of Samuel make sure to bring that to light. But David does give us a glimpse of what the coming King is to be. He was a man after God’s own heart, filled with zeal for the LORD, to the point that he was willing to die for the Name of the LORD. This is what made him YHWH’s King.
