This is the Old Drill Tower found on Columbus in Waco, TX. I tried to search some history, but only found another drill tower that was built in 1971 closer to the river. Clearly, this tower is much older and deserves the name. I don’t think this is used for anything that I know of.

Wow, great doors and a pretty cool structure. I might do the stairs but I would not want to be going up that ladder. I’m glad they preserved this. You did a good job on the photos, it’s a tough subject.

Thanks. I thought about taking the stairs, but then thought better of it.

Do you think it was a lookout tower? I liked that you included the door lock and handle! The ladder surely was for emergency only!

I had to know more about this tower! So I googled something similar in Austin. Yes, it was a lookout tower for fires! I’m glad they maintained it and kept it!

Those little windows add a little bit extra.

I know, neat. My thought: “who decided to put that window there?” Especially given that no one stayed in the building for very long.

Nice find and you did an excellent job of presenting how attractive the building and door are. I really like the second photo of the door itself.

Wow! I can see someone making a tall, tiny house out of that one. But it probably has landmark status. Nice capture.
