I took a tour of the August Canal many years ago and found it to be quite interesting. From what I remember, the canal was built to aid the cotton industry and now has become a part of Augusta’s heritage. There are no motor boats allowed the canal, and they drained it at one time, only to find abandoned cars and appliances.

I think it would be an excellent place to have canoe and kayak races.
