David’s Peace and Desire

We come to our text and we find that David is living in peace. The LORD had given him rest from all his enemies around… And this is worth noting: while David’s peace, came through David’s actions of being a faithful king, ultimately, the peace came from the LORD. We can only have true and real peace when the LORD grants it to us. This is why we are to seek His peace.

During this time, David speaks to Nathan:

“See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains.”

Nathan, being able to discern what David has in mind, replies: “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you.”

David’s thought are on his own house, how it is made of cedar, yet the LORD dwells in tents, where the ark if found. Remember that the ark represents God’s presence among the people. It was clearly sacred, yet the LORD had only instructed the people to make a tent for the tabernacle.

That tabernacle is something temporary that moves about. John tells us that Jesus tabernacles among us, or dwelt among us, noting that His ministry on earth was temporary.
