The World Hates You!

This was originally published on September 20, 2010.  Please note that I was preaching at Grace Pres in Jackson, TN. I’m no longer preaching there.

How would you like the responsibility of preaching those words to your congregation? I had the opportunity and privilege to do so yesterday. I say privilege and opportunity because it is always a privilege to preach God’s word to His people. But yesterday’s message was difficult. Who likes to say, “Hey, guess what? As a Christian, know that the world will hate you.”

I couched it in terms of an ad agency. How the ad agency reveal that truth? How would it go over if our church ran ads “Come to Grace Pres, where you will be taught about the world’s hatred for you.

This is the truth of the gospel. When we become Christians, we are plucked out of the world by Christ and made His disciples. “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”

As a Christian, we must realize that we are no longer members of the realm called: the world. We have become members of the Kingdom of Heaven, and that means we are automatically at odds with the world. This is a wonderful reality for us in the long run, but in the short run, it means that we will suffer persecution and hatred from the world.

Why?

Because the world first hated Christ. If we just look at the number of times that John talks about how Jesus was not received, or rejected or hated or threatened with death, we see that the world absolutely despises our Savior. The rejection is complete. I know that there are those who like to say things like, “Well, I love Jesus Christ but cannot stand Christians.”

This is an out and out lie. Jesus said that if we love Him, then we will keep His commandments, and His commandments are that we love one another, i.e., fellow believers. So to reject Christians, is to reject Christ. To reject Christ, is to reject the Father. Welcome to the realm of the world.

However if we are of Christ, then we to love one another because the world will hate us. We need to stick together as believers and encourage one another. I believe this is one of the reasons that Jesus said three times in His upper-room discourse: “These things I command you, that you love one another.” He knew that the world would hate us as well and we not only need His Spirit in us, but also one another. This is why we are to remain together as a body. To separate ourselves, is to distance ourselves from Christ and His Kingdom. This also opens us up to the attack of Satan. Remember, he prowls around like a roaring lion. Roaring lions never go after the pack, but after the sick and the young and those who are alone. So we are to stay together.

We must also realize that when the world does display its hatred for us, we are to rejoice. Listen to Christ’s words from the sermon on the mount:

Matthew 5:11-12 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.  Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

If we did not have the future promises given to us by Christ, the warnings of the world’s hatred for us would be sorely depressing. But we are given a wonderful promise: great is your reward in heaven. When we suffer for His name, then we should rejoice and be glad because we have a future hope that far exceeds anything we may have on this side of glory.

There is nothing here in this world that will last, or compare to the infinite joy and beauty we will have in glory with the Lord. When we remember this reality, we can endure the hatred of the world. For the love of Christ far surpasses any love that the world has to offer for us, for Christ’s love is enduring and far more fulfilling. The world’s love for its own is passing and in the end, a lie. It’s not true love in the sense that it does not seek the best interests of those who experience it. It cannot truly satisfy or fulfill those who yearn for it.

When Jesus tells us that the world hates us, we should rejoice because we really do not want the world’s love in the end. His love is far better. The sufferings and the hatred we may endure are only temporary. But not His love, or His Kingdom, or His promises. In view of all that, rejoice that the world does hate us. It means that we are standing for righteousness’ sake and suffering for His name. That is a blessing.

Yesterday, in my sermon, I mentioned this video. This woman is standing for righteousness’ sake. She is standing against killing the unborn especially black children. Watch the response to her. One man, white and liberal, tries to bring up adopting babies, as in, if you are really pro-life, you will adopt babies. Guess what? There are plenty of people wanting to adopt children in the U.S. If we would stop aborting all these children, then there would not be waiting lists for adoption.

The point is that you see the world’s hatred against this woman as she stands for righteousness’ sake. Please watch the video and support the movie if you can. It’s from The Runaway Slave movie.

You can see more about this movie here. It’s put together by C.L. Bryant, a black pastor who is conservative and is trying to show the dangers of socialism, progressivism, etc.

Hattip to Neil for the video.

Pray the Election Goes Pro-Life

That is my prayer for Tuesday’s election. I pray that it goes pro-life. I hope the LORD raises up candidates that will stand for the unborn and not just those who have that position, but will actually do something about it. It’s not good enough that a candidate has pro-life views if they do not do something about it. That is why I was so upset with George W. Bush. He had both houses of Congress and did nothing. I forgive him. But having a pro-life stance and doing nothing about it are two different things.

That is my hope for this coming Tuesday. Those who hold to pro-life views would win and those who do not hold those views would lose. I pray for that both on the national and local level. After all, as I’ve said before, does a candidate truly stand for us if he will to allow the slaughter of the most innocent in our society? The candidate that does that is truly a candidate of death and their hands are bloody.

Bishop E.W. Jackson Points Out Inconsistency of Democratic Party for Christians

The Bishop E.W. Jackson speaks out against the Democratic Party, saying that it is antithetical to those of us who are Christians. I’ve been saying it for years, how can the party that cherishes killing the unborn have anything to do with the Light of the World? How can the party that recognize two men in an unholy relationship have anything to do with the ONE who said it was an abomination to Him? How can the party the cherishes every level of sinful and rebellious behavior have anything to do with the One who submitted Himself to the death of the cross out of humble obedience?

The Democratic Party and Christianity are incompatible with one another. Christians should leave the party and not vote for those who stand with them.

Here is the Bishop E.W. Jackson saying the same thing from his perspective as a black Christian. I truly am encouraged by his words. Even though he is speaking mainly to black Christians, he reminds us that we need to stand with God, not some political party or candidate. God is the One who will take care of us, not the fallen government. Speaking of which see the second video in which Dr. Barbara Beller points out just how ridiculous it is for us to think that Obamacare will take care anyone at all.

Use Obamacare to End Abortion

Yes, I’m extremely disappointed that the Supreme Court rule that Obamacare is nothing more than a tax increase. That being the case, the Court said that Congress has that right, so the country was just handed the largest tax increase in history.

I also recognize that there are those who do not have insurance and need it, however, I don’t believe this was the way to go. Since we are on this trajectory, now is time for Republicans to formulate a plan to end abortion through Obamacare. How? Simply by using this bureaucratic monster to delay women in getting abortion.

When a woman seeks to get an abortion, require that she must sign up for a three month course that teaches her the full implications of abortion, both biologically and psychologically. This way, she is not duped into believe that the life in her womb is just “pregnancy material.”

Once this course has been completed, then she needs to apply to a special board of health officials that will interview each candidate for the surgical procedure to take place. Then, she must file the appropriate paper work in triplicate… submitting it to all the appropriate branches of Health and Human Services, or department heads, who must read the forms, agree that she is a candidate for aborting, and grant her the service. At this point she must apply to another committee for an assigned and appropriate physician to perform the procedure and once he has passed all the legalities to perform the abortion, then he can do so.

But wait, there is more. Since the abortion doctor must also have the right number of nurses, they must apply for permits and be authorized to help the physician in this procedure for THIS patient, and once that is approved, then they too can assist in the procedure.

Once all this is done, the child, who is now 18 years old and graduating from high school, can be aborted… only by then, it will be too late.

Honestly, I’m trying to find some empty silver lining in all this. I really am shocked that it was Justice Roberts that sided with the liberals on this issue. What an absolute disappointment.

Michael J. Fox is Changing Course

Good news on the pro-life front. Michael J. Fox, who has been a proponent of using embryonic stem-cell research in the hunt for a cure to Parkinson’s disease has admitted that a cure will more than likely come from another source, besides stem-cell research.

Last week Fox revealed he now believes that other lines of research hold more promise. “There have been some issues with stem cells, some problems along the way,” Fox told ABC News. “An answer may come from stem cell research but it’s more than likely to come from another area.”

The rest of the story is found here.

As you may recall, Fox was a proponent of using stem-cell research in finding a cure for the disease that he has to the point that he was in a political ad to help elect Claire McCaskill to the U.S. Senate back in 2006. He purposely did not use his medicine for the filming of the commercial in order to add drama. He was heavily criticized for doing just that and then those who criticized him were then demonized. I wrote about it here (hard to believe I have posts going back to 2006).

While I was critical of him then, I’m glad to see his coming around to a more pro-life position on the matter. And no, I wasn’t one of the ones that were demonized for my criticizing him. My readership is far too small. Please note, that his turning from the pro-abort crowd’s position to the pro-life position was based upon science. Those on the pro-life side have known since this debate began that the stem-cell research being done was not likely to produce any results and hasn’t shown a lot of promise (George Bush showed this to be true in his book as well, even though he approved a certain number of embryonic stem cells to be used for research.) Hopefully, those on the left will give up their pursuit of such research.

Big Abortion Has Its Way with Susan G. Komen

For those of us who are pro-life, we had a roller coaster ride with Susan G. Komen Foundation last week. We cheered as the Susan G. Komen Foundation pulled funding for Planned Parenthood. This is due to the fact that the Planned Parenthood offers no services such as mammograms to women, pretty much just abortion services. This has been pointed out time and time again by the opponents of PP. They are in the business of killing babies, not helping women.

Because of this truth, those on the right have been after the Komen Foundation to pull funding, since it has been shown that having abortions leads to higher risk for breast cancer. If you are going to say that your organization’s purpose is the health of women, then it seems very contradictory to that purpose to support another organization that causes an increase in the disease you are trying to wipe out. In view of that, the Komen Foundation pulled funding from Planned Parenthood, or so we thought.

But alas, the Komen Foundation couldn’t stand up against Big Abortion. The power’s that be, namely liberal, feminist women, cannot have anyone dissenting and pressured the Komen Foundation into returning its funding. Komen caved.

This should not surprise us. The Susan G. Komen Foundation, while seemingly very noble in it’s pursuit, is only seemingly noble. We tend to forget that these organizations are not born out of that which is moral or biblical, therefore they have no grounding in that which is righteous, namely, God’s word. Therefore when the pressure began to build from every left-wing institution against Komen, there was no foundation of truth to keep them from being swayed. Komen exists and thrives on popular opinion. It has never made strides in its quest based upon doing what was right, but doing what was expedient.

In the first part of the week, they were merely giving in to us on the right in pulling the funding in the first place, it wasn’t a stand in true righteousness. So when the left threw its hissy fit, Komen had to give into the intolerant leftl. In other words, the lack of a moral foundation led them to be blown by every wind of doctrine, even though one breeze that blew them this week was grounded in God’s word.

This is true of every organization that is not grounded in God’s word. Doing what right is not the cause of so many organizations, doing what is expedient is. The organization may begin with altruistic motives, but altruistic motives never last when they are not grounded in truth. To the world that fails to see these contradictions, Komen can continue on seemingly looking out for the best interest of women with their right hand, even though the left hand is killing future women and leading to the defeat of the very cause in which it was started.

I like what Mark Steyn had to say about it as well:

Liberals take the same view as the proprietors of the Dar al-Islam: Once they hold this land, they hold it forever. Notwithstanding that those who give to the Foundation are specifically giving to support breast cancer research, Komen could not be permitted to get away with disrespecting Big Abortion. We don’t want to return to the bad old days of the back alley, when a poor vulnerable person who made the mistake of stepping out of line had to be forced into the shadows and have the realities explained to them with a tire iron. Now Big Liberalism’s enforcers do it on the front pages with the panjandrums of tolerance and diversity cheering them all the way. In the wake of Komen’s decision, the Yale School of Public Health told the Washington Post’s Sarah Kliff that its invitation to Nancy Brinker to be its commencement speaker was now “under careful review.” Because God forbid anybody doing a master’s program at an Ivy League institution should be exposed to anyone not in full 100 percent compliance with liberal orthodoxy. The American Association of University Women announced it would no longer sponsor teams for Komen’s “Race for the Cure.” Sure, Komen has raised $2 billion for the cure, but better we never cure breast cancer than let a single errant Injun wander off the abortion reservation. Terry O’Neill of the National Organization for Women said Komen “is no longer an organization whose mission is to advance women’s health.” You preach it, sister. I mean, doesn’t the very idea of an organization obsessively focused on breasts sound suspiciously patriarchal?

As Kate Sheppard, the “reproductive rights” correspondent of Mother Jones, tweeted triumphantly, “Overheard in the office: ‘Come at Cecile Richards, you best not miss.’”

Indeed. If you strike at the King, you must kill him. If you merely announce that, following a review of grant-eligibility procedures you’re no longer in a position to make your small voluntary donation to the King, your head will be on a pikestaff outside the palace gates. By Friday morning lockstep liberalism had done its job. All that was missing was James Carville to declare, “Drag a hundred-dollar bill through an oncology clinic awareness-raising free mammogram session, you never know what you’ll find.” After 72 hours being fitted for the liberals’ cement overcoat and an honored place as the cornerstone of the Planned Parenthood Monument to Women’s Choice, Komen attempted to chisel free and back into the good graces of the tolerant: As Nancy Brinker’s statement groveled, “We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives.”

Congratulations! Planned Parenthood certainly raised Nancy’s awareness. I wonder what color ribbon that comes with? Black and blue?

In other words, don’t mess with Big Abortion. If you disagree with them, you will pay, especially if you happen to lack any moral standing for righteousness. The Komen Foundation was built with good intentions, but good intentions are not grounded in Scripture. Since they have no moral grounding in Scripture, they are subject to blow with the winds of political correctness as we saw this past week. They will bow at the altar of feminism, holding hands with the left, and sacrifice more children on the altar of sexual freedom, even though doing so leads to defeating them in their overall purpose of providing health care for women.

Roundup That Matters

Just a few things going on that I would like to comment about, but not write an entire post about.

Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church cancels services — this boneheaded idea is that they should cancel Sunday services and spend time doing random acts of kindness. Sounds all gooey and cheesy on the surface, but the most important thing a Christian can do is gather with other Christians and worship God. I think God takes worship quite seriously. After all, in those Ten Commandment thingys, God uses one of those commands in order to set aside a day JUST for worship. Of course, that would be lost on Warren and his “trendy” church. Never let the Bible or God’s word get in the way of a good idea. Maybe we can pray that Warren & Co. will just go ahead and cancel their services… forever. Let the people in his congregation find a true church.

Boycotting Celebs Because of Their Abortion Positions — The writer readily agrees that if we boycotted every star and starlet in the entertainment industry that support abortion, we wouldn’t be able to watch television at all… Hhm? Maybe not a bad idea. But I digress. Kristen Walker does say that we should boycott the worst offenders for their positions. She lists five: Scarlett Johansson, Sarah Silverman, Chelsea Handler, Amy Poehler, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Walker writes of Johansson:

The gorgeous star of Iron Man 2, Lost in Translation, Ghost World, and a bunch of movies I haven’t seen joined an even more irritating actress (see #1, below) for aPSA warning the world that in the event of Planned Parenthood being defunded, poor women would be denied even the most basic health care and forcibly impregnated with Republican babies, which they would then be forced to raise as Evangelicals. Or something like that.

The rest are worth reading. I’m not much for boycotting, especially since I see so few movies, I’ve only heard of Paltrow, but if you want to join Walker, please do so.

Jim Thornton Challenges Faith Healers — This article gets my blood going because I always want to challenge so-called faith healers that if they are truly faith healers, why not go into a hospital and heal everyone inside for the glory of God? In fact, do so and do not ask for any money. If you really have the gift of healing then you shouldn’t have any problem doing this at all. Thornton has a similar line of thinking. He writes:

I have decided to listen to the faith healers and stop my blood pressure medicine and vitamin pills. There are a few conditions however before I stop, I need to see more consistency in these faith healers. First, I want see them stop eating and just trust God for their bodily nourishment. Second, I need to see them avoid the gas stations and trust the Lord to keep their cars running by faith alone. Lastly, I want them to stop asking for our money and just trust the Lord to fill up their bank accounts. Then when I see the faith healers nourished without food, their cars running without gassing up, and their bank accounts so full that they stop asking for money, I will stop using my medicine.

Thornton is on to something.

Another J.C. Ryle Quote — because I needed to read this one and be reminded.

Your trials may be many and great. Your cross may be very heavy. But the business of your soul is all conducted according to an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and sure. All things are working together for your good. Your sorrows are only purifying your soul for glory; your bereavements are only fashioning you as a polished stone for the temple above, made without hands. From whatever quarter the storms blow, they only drive you nearer to heaven! Whatever weather you may go through it is only ripening you for the garner of God. Your best things are quite safe.

Pro-Abort Groups Have Crisis Pregnancy Centers in their Crosshairs

Al Mohler Jr. has a good piece on how the city councils in New York, Baltimore and San Francisco are trying to shut down Crisis Pregnancy Centers saying that women get counseling there that could lead to something other than an abortion.

First in Baltimore, and then in New YorkCity, municipal governments passed laws intended to shut down or curtail the work of crisis pregnancy centers in their cities. The crisis pregnancy centers have been among the most important platforms for saving unborn human lives and reasserting human dignity. This is especially true in more recent years, as many of these centers have begun using sophisticated ultrasound imaging technologies in order to show pregnant women the unborn babies within them.

These centers are staffed by brave workers and an army of volunteers who are committed to counsel women against killing their unborn babies. The ultrasound images have been massively important in this counseling process. Once the woman sees the unborn life within her, the chances of that baby surviving to live birth are tremendously enhanced.

As one abortion rights activist famously declared, “The fetus beat us.” When the fetus is seen for what is really is, the mother has a much harder time deciding to abort it. Crisis pregnancy centers generally offer a variety of services, ranging from counseling and adoption services to medical care and support for new mothers. All this is too much for the abortion industry, which rightly sees crisis pregnancy centers as their increasingly powerful opposition.

The pro-abort crowd cannot handle the reality that the “fetus” is actually a baby. Fetus is from the Latin word that means “little one” so even those pesky Italians understood that the thing growing inside a woman’s belly was actually a baby and not just “pregnancy mass” as the pro-abort crowd tried calling it back in the 1990s. The last thing they want is a woman having an ultra-sound in a Crisis Pregnancy Center showing the woman that the pregnancy mass is actually a baby. That destroys every last shed of the lie put forth by the pro-abort crowd (notice, I refuse to call them pro-choice because the only choice they ever really offer is that of abortion).

Mohler continues by showing that the attack on the Crisis Pregnancy Center’s is by saying that the center’s operate on propaganda, something the pro-abort crowd never do.

Now, city officials in San Francisco have launched their own effort to shutter crisis pregnancy centers, claiming that staff at the centers impose “anti-abortion propaganda and mistruths on suspecting women.”

As if the Planned Parenthood groups were also set forth to tell the truth. Just their cry to be referred to as “pro-choice” shows the hypocrisy in any references to the truth.

Note the reference to anti-abortion arguments as “propaganda,” as if there could only be one side to the issue. Dennis Herrera, the San Francisco city attorney who is running for mayor, called the crisis pregnancy centers “right wing” and “politically motivated.” There was no acknowledgment of the fact that pro-abortion groups such as Planned Parenthood are “left wing” and “politically motivated.” Furthermore, given the millions of dollars of income made by Planned Parenthood and other major components of the abortion industry, the phrase “financially motivated” should be added as well. Where are the calls for honesty from Planned Parenthood?

Mohler concludes:

This is the logic of the Culture of Death laid bare for all to see. Crisis pregnancy centers deserve the support of all who cherish the sanctity of life, the defense of the unborn, and the right of free speech. As defenders of life, crisis pregnancy centers should be committed to nothing less than comprehensive truth-telling. It is the Culture of Death, and not the Culture of Life, that fears the truth.

These groups will do whatever it takes to silence those of us who fight for life and speak the truth. The truth is far too damaging to their cause and their sick view of life. We must continue to speak the truth about abortion no matter how ugly the truth may be. After all, it is killing the next generation. God will certainly not continue to bless us as a nation as long as we are destroying little ones that bear His image.

Gov. Haslam: Veto the Entire Bill! An Open Letter to the Governor

Dear Governor Bill Haslam,

I do feel compelled to write to you or even speak with one of your assistants about the pending budget bill that will support Planned Parenthood for another year with Federal Funding. You say that you are pro-life, and take a pro-life stance, but your unwillingness to use your authority with a line-item veto or your veto shows that you are merely pro-life in name only. After all, you are only being pro-life when it is convenient, not when it might actually cost you something. That is not pro-life. That is just being political in nature. Therefore I call on you to repent of this behavior, take a stand for the lives of those who are dying at the hands of abortionist, and actually be bold for righteousness sake. You are the top official in this state and you will be held accountable by God Himself on judgment day for your actions.

I know, this may seem radical to you to make this claim. If so, this means that you have fallen under the false belief that what we do in our professional lives doesn’t matter to God. It all matters to God. He is concerned for the “least of these.” Those are the words of Christ. What you do or do not do has consequences and we all will be held accountable for our actions or inaction.

I commend Senator Stacey Campfield (R-Knoxville) for his action in order to bring about the end of funding for Planned Parenthood. He is a man of his word. You might take some pointers from him, or Governor Rick Perry of Texas, who is also pro-life. These men are actually committed to ending abortion and doing everything in their power to stop it.

While you have claimed to be pro-life, your commitment seems to be waning. Why? You have the power to veto the line or the bill and force a special session in order to rectify the problem. Or, is it just too inconvenient to you politically to do so? What are a few more lives when it is inconvenient to you and fellow politicians?

I also wrote your office and here is your office’s response:

No state tax dollars go to Planned Parenthood in the budget passed by the legislature this year. The current issue surrounds federal money passing through the state. I do have a line-item veto to reduce or disapprove a sum of money, but removing legal language - which is at the heart of this matter - would require the budget to be re-approved by the legislature, which has already gone out of session.

I am against tax dollars going to Planned Parenthood, and I am disappointed that the circumstances surrounding the state budget do not allow us to prevent this from happening this year.  But I am already working with Lt. Gov. Ramsey and Speaker Harwell to ensure that taxpayer dollars do not go to Planned Parenthood in future budgets.

Disappointment doesn’t relieve you of responsibility. Action does. If you sign the bill, while you may express disappointment, your actions belie your words. Take a stand. Veto the bill. Do what it takes to make it right, right now. Not at some future date.

Sincerely,

Timothy J. Hammons

Kudos to Kathy Ireland

I don’t really keep up with what is going on in Hollywood, so it is a surprise to see one star being openly pro-life. Kathy Ireland was awarded this week by “the YWCA Greater Los Angeles with the 2011 Phenomenal Woman of the Year Award at the “Saluting Women Who Are Instruments of Change” ceremony.” She also happens to be extremely pro-life and said that Planned Parenthood should not receive government funding. This shows she has true courage to stand up for her beliefs, especially when the Hollywood crowd is so opposed to those beliefs.

The other interesting aspect of her position is that she came to the pro-life point of view based solely on the science of the issue.

“I’ve never set out to win a popularity contest. I came from [being previously pro-choice], but when I was confronted with the science – and I spoke to top scientists throughout our country asking, ‘Would you please just show me some shred of evidence that the unborn is not a human being?’ and no one has been able to show me any, and I will continue to fight for those human rights until someone can show me otherwise,” she continued. “So a lot of people get mad at me, but that’s okay. I listen to criticism because sometimes there are things to learn, even if it’s wrapped in a nasty package.”

Many on the left love to say that we don’t come to our positions because of true thought and research, yet here is a starlet doing just that. Kudos to Kathy Ireland for standing up for her beliefs in the face of a hostile Hollywood crowd.
